Founded by an NRA-certified pistol instructor, this business is dedicated to helping new shooters build a strong foundation in firearm safety, confidence, and proper shooting fundamentals. The training focuses on developing essential skills such as proper grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control, and safe firearm handling in a supportive and approachable environment.
Specializing primarily in pistol instruction, the business also offers coaching in rifle shooting and sporting clays for those looking to expand their skills across multiple shooting disciplines. The instructor brings over a decade of personal shooting and competition experience, including participation in pistol, 3-gun, sporting clays, and archery competitions. This journey began years ago while learning and competing alongside his own 10-year-old son, which fostered a passion for teaching, mentorship, and introducing others to the shooting sports in a positive and responsible manner.
Whether working with first-time firearm owners, beginners with little to no experience, women, or younger shooters, the goal is to create a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable learning experience that promotes responsible firearm ownership and long-term confidence. With patience, professionalism, and individualized instruction tailored to each student’s experience level and goals, clients gain the skills, confidence, and mindset needed to safely enjoy recreational shooting and continue developing as responsible shooters.

Tom Ievoli didn't start out as an instructor, he started out as a dad.
When his son came to him wanting to try shooting, Tom's first reaction wasn't excitement, it was hesitation. He had no experience with firearms, and like a lot of people, the idea felt unfamiliar and a little intimidating. But his son wanted to try it, and Tom wasn't going to let his own uncertainty get in the way of supporting him.
So he showed up anyway. He learned alongside his son, took it seriously, did it safely, and somewhere along the way, that hesitation turned into a decade-long passion. Together they trained and competed across pistol, 3-gun, sporting clays, and archery. What started as a dad saying "yes" became a journey that changed both of their lives.
That experience is exactly why Tom started First Shots Coaching. He knows firsthand what it feels like to be the person in the room who isn't sure they belong there. He built this business for the people who are curious but nervous, interested but unsure, or worried about what others might think. Those feelings are valid. And they don't have to stop you.
Today, Tom is an NRA-certified pistol instructor who brings patience, professionalism, and genuine enthusiasm to every session. His belief is simple: with the right instruction, firearms training is safe, empowering, and accessible to anyone, regardless of your background or experience level.
At First Shots Coaching, the range is a judgment-free zone. Tom tailors every lesson to where you are — your comfort level, your goals, your pace. The result isn't just better shooting. It's the kind of confidence that sticks with you long after you leave the range.
Ready to take your first shot? Tom's ready when you are.

Great day on the range with new shooters learning the fundamentals of safe firearm handling. We worked on developing a proper grip, reinforcing safety habits, and building confidence. The smiles and progress made throughout the session showed that learning can be both safe and enjoyable.
At First Shots Coaching, our goal is to make every new shooter feel comfortable, confident, and safe. Students learn proper firearm safety, grip, stance, and shooting fundamentals in a relaxed environment where questions are encouraged and success is measured by progress. Watching first-time shooters leave with improved skills and a smile on their face is what makes every lesson worthwhile.
In a single session, this first-time shooter went from learning basic firearm safety and fundamentals on a .22 caliber pistol with iron sights to confidently running a 9mm with a red dot optic. The equipment changed, but the fundamentals remained the same—a proper grip, safe gun handling, sight management, and trigger control. That's the power of building a solid foundation from the very first shot.

Absolutely. First Shots Coaching was built specifically with beginners in mind. We work with complete newcomers all the time, and there's no experience required for any of the introductory sessions. You'll start with the basics and build from there at your own pace.
Comfortable, closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are a must. Eye and ear protection are required — we can advise on what to bring when you book. If you have your own firearm, let Tom know in advance.
Sessions are held at local ranges throughout the service area. First Shots Coaching serves Palm Beach, Martin, Okeechobee, and Broward counties. Range fees are not included in the coaching rate unless otherwise arranged. Location is determined by the type of training requested and may affect pricing.
